The Environmental Health Trust (EHT), an environmental nonprofit in Canada, is set to launch its Global Campaign for Safer Cell Phones all across Canada. According to its president, Devra Lee Davis, PhD, MPH, EHT is taking the lead in alerting “the planet’s five billion cell phone customers that heavy use of phones next to the body increases infertility, cancer and neurological problems.”
The U.S. remains far behind its neighbor on this issue, yet we as individuals can take the initiative to push us as a nation toward joining in and leading the information campaign. Share your thoughts on this here by leaving a comment, let us know what you are doing and would like to see done.
I use an airtube headset to mitigate the cell phone radiation. I also use a low-SAR cell phone – but I am not convinced the phone’s advertised SAR level is what the level truly is. I would like to see much more research being done about health impacts of cell phones and cell towers not just on humans but marine and animal life as well. Also, I would like to see vastly more transparency from the cell phone manufacturers and the telecom industry as a whole about health impacts of cell phones and other wireless devices/services like wifi.
It is now the 4G and more antennas, towers, and WiFi/WiMAX that will be radiating all of us. Arthur Firstenberg of Cellular Phone Task Force at 505 471-0129 in New Mexico sent me information about the FCC proposal to eliminate landlines. Lots of people are EHS and the landlines are the safest way for them to communicate, and for computer use as well. Go to http://www.regulations.gov Our government and the communication companies are pulling a fast one and have purposely kept most people in the dark about the radiation that can affect one adversely, and they are aware that more people are becoming aware of the issues, and thus they are moving fast on various issues of great concern before the public realize the dangers involved.
How about a registry of potentially microwave-related health problems related to proximity to cell towers. Maybe when the public sees the clear pattern that I am confident will emerge, they will realize that their daily conversations are not worth the hazard, and will take up arms. We need to maintain our land lines and REDUCE the number of cell phone towers in our neighborhoods!
The Environmental Health Trust is actually US-based and Devra Lee Davis teaches at Pittsburgh U.
But us Crazy Canucks are lucky to have her helping out cuz there’s lots of industry-funding naysayers up here!
PS: Among the best EMF Web sites abroad : http://www.powerwatch.org.uk (includes most studies ever published on the topic)
and http://emraustralia.com.au publishes the great EMR & Health newsletter
(Editor Lyn McLean also wrote the new book The Force – Living Safely in a World of Electromagnetic Pollution)
